About the role
talabat, the leading on-demand food and Q-commerce app in the region, is looking for a Manager, Data Scientist – AI to join its Applied AI Tribe in Dubai. This team focuses on turning cutting-edge AI into measurable business value by shipping agentic AI systems at scale. As a leader, you will balance people management with technical strategy, ensuring your team delivers high-impact AI solutions across product, business automation, and self-serve tools.
Responsibilities
- People Leadership: Lead, grow, and retain a team of data scientists, fostering a culture of ownership and supporting career development.
- Technical Strategy: Translate ambiguous business problems into well-scoped ML and AI solutions with clear success criteria.
- Delivery: Own the technical roadmap, prioritizing work in data enrichment, business automation, and agentic product features.
- AI Implementation: Drive the adoption of LLMs and generative AI for data enrichment and automated decision-making, ensuring robust evaluation pipelines and observability.
- ML Lifecycle: Oversee data pipelines, model training, production deployment, and monitoring to ensure reliable performance.
- Collaboration: Partner with product managers, business teams, and engineering to identify high-value AI opportunities and integrate solutions smoothly.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A postgraduate degree is a plus.
- Experience: 6+ years in data science, ML engineering, or generative AI, including shipping models to production.
- Leadership: 2+ years managing or leading a data science or ML team with a track record of developing talent.
- Technical Skills: Deep expertise in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and recommendation systems. Hands-on knowledge of frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Scikit-learn.
- GenAI & LLMs: Proficiency with OpenAI SDK, LangGraph for agentic workflows, and Hugging Face for model sourcing and fine-tuning.
- Engineering: Strong software engineering fundamentals, SQL, Python, and experience with MLOps practices and data pipelines (e.g., Airflow).
- Plus: Familiarity with agentic system design, BigQuery, and Google Cloud Platform.
