About the role
Proten International is recruiting an experienced Quality Assurance & Control (QA/QC) Specialist for a client in the Food & Beverages and Export industry. This full-time position is based in Kano. The role focuses on overseeing product quality, food safety, regulatory compliance, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct product sampling, testing, sensory evaluation, and routine quality inspections across production processes.
- Perform site inspections, risk assessments, and enforce PPE compliance and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents, training, and corrective actions.
- Liaise with external laboratories, research institutions, regulatory agencies, and government officials.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, IFS, and organic certification requirements.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and quality deviations, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage internal audits, traceability records, quality documentation, and audit readiness.
- Develop and maintain QHSE policies, procedures, and workplace safety programmes.
- Identify physical, chemical, and biological hazards and implement appropriate quality control measures.
- Conduct staff training, toolbox talks, and awareness programmes on food safety, quality, and workplace safety.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Quality Engineering, Food Science/Technology, Food Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience, preferably in a supervisory or management role.
- Mandatory experience in the Food & Beverages, Export, or Herbs & Spices industry.
- Experience in the hibiscus export business is an added advantage.
- Fluency in Hausa and English is required.
- Professional certification in QA/QC or process improvement, such as TQM, Six Sigma, Lean, HACCP, ISO 22000, IASSC, or ASQ.
- Certifications such as CSP, OSHA 30-Hour, IOSH, ISO 45001, or ISO 14001 are highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Food Defense, NEBOSH, ISPON Level 3, QHSE, QMS, and hygiene policies.
- Strong knowledge of quality standards, food safety regulations, internal auditing, traceability, and HSE compliance.
- Master’s degree is an advantage.
