About the role
Action Against Hunger is seeking a WASH Technical Assistant to join our team in Katsina. In this position, you will report directly to the WASH Engineer. You will play a key part in supporting water and sanitation projects, ensuring they meet high technical standards and community needs.
Responsibilities
- Support the supervision of water and sanitation construction activities, including site visits and quality assurance.
- Assist with water chlorination and monitoring in targeted health facilities and communities.
- Ensure all technical activities adhere to Action Against Hunger standards and SPHERE minimum standards.
- Participate in community mobilization and facilitate technical assessments.
- Assist in developing technical guidelines and training tools for stakeholders.
- Provide capacity building through training, mentoring, and coaching for volunteers and WASH management committees.
- Liaise with local government and internal hygiene teams to ensure smooth project implementation.
- Monitor and record water quality results, and submit technical and consumption reports as requested.
- Assist in preparing weekly reports and mapping WASH infrastructure on the database.
Requirements
- Minimum of a National Diploma in Water Engineering, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Building, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant field experience, including supervising drilling and construction activities.
- Previous experience in the humanitarian sector is required.
- Fluency in both Hausa and English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and designing software.
- Willingness to be based in and travel regularly to remote areas with limited services.
- Good knowledge of the intervention area and local economy.
- Strong organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to Action Against Hunger’s mission.
