About the role
Lightread Consulting is recruiting a Supermarket Operations Manager to lead the daily operations of a supermarket in Maryland, Lagos. This full-time position requires a commercially minded professional who can drive profitability, manage teams, and maintain high service standards. The role involves overseeing all departments, from inventory and procurement to customer experience and loss prevention.
Responsibilities
- Daily Operations: Ensure the store maintains high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation while coordinating with suppliers and external stakeholders.
- Staff Management: Supervise employees, manage schedules, monitor performance against KPIs, and provide coaching and training.
- Sales & Revenue: Monitor sales performance, analyze trends, develop strategies to increase average spend, and ensure correct pricing and display.
- Inventory Control: Manage stock levels, conduct regular counts, monitor expiry dates, and address discrepancies or losses.
- Financial Oversight: Control operational costs, monitor cash collections, and work with finance to investigate revenue discrepancies.
- Customer Experience: Improve satisfaction through efficient checkout processes, timely complaint resolution, and professional staff interactions.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to health, safety, and food handling regulations while maintaining accurate operational records.
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in supermarket, retail, FMCG, or hospitality operations.
- Bachelor’s Degree, HND, or equivalent in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, or a related field.
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience managing teams and day-to-day business operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant business software; experience with POS and inventory management systems is an advantage.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
