About the role

Sitrid International School (SIS) in Port Harcourt is looking for a dedicated Physics Teacher to join their secondary school team. SIS is a technology-focused institution serving students from daycare to SS3. The successful candidate will be passionate about using technology to enhance learning and committed to helping students develop strong physics concepts, practical skills, and problem-solving abilities in a safe and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver structured physics lessons aligned with the school curriculum, using real-life examples and demonstrations.
  • Conduct practical experiments and guide students in using laboratory equipment correctly.
  • Assess student learning through quizzes, tests, and assignments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Develop students’ scientific thinking by encouraging hypothesis formulation, data interpretation, and systematic problem-solving.
  • Manage the physics classroom and laboratory, ensuring equipment is maintained and safety procedures are followed.
  • Support students’ overall development by building positive relationships and encouraging participation in STEM activities.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and communicate effectively with parents and school leadership.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with teaching methodologies and technology.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Physics Education, or a closely related field.
  • Previous experience teaching Physics at the secondary school level.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach both theory and practical Physics.
  • Strong knowledge of the secondary-school Physics curriculum, including mechanics, electricity, waves, and modern physics.
  • Competence in using digital tools and educational technology to enhance instruction.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to student safety and safeguarding.
  • A teaching qualification such as PGDE or NCE is an advantage.
