About the role
Tincan Island Container Terminal Limited (TICT) is a multinational company operating at Terminal B, Tin-can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos. Established in 2004, TICT serves as the concessionaire for this terminal under a long-term lease with the Federal Government of Nigeria. The company is committed to port development and aims to be a key player in the African sub-region.
The Operations Coordinator will supervise and coordinate real-time terminal operations from the Operations Control Room. This role ensures safe, efficient, and hitch-free vessel and yard activities by monitoring operations via the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and CCTV systems. You will facilitate seamless information dissemination and strong coordination between Yard, Shipside, Equipment Control, and Planning teams to optimize terminal performance.
Responsibilities
- Monitor live vessel and yard operations via TOS and Control Room systems to ensure smooth operational flow.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and escalate them promptly.
- Monitor movements of Cargo Handling Equipment (CHE) across the yard, shipside, and terminal through CCTV.
- Disseminate accurate operational information to Yard and Ship-side teams in real time.
- Communicate with shipping agents regarding vessel status to support berthing and sailing plans.
- Send vessel departure reports to Vessel Command, Shipping Lines, and internal recipients upon completion of operations.
- Prepare shift reports summarizing vessel productivity, yard performance, delays, and key events.
- Analyze causes of delays and propose corrective solutions.
- Coordinate with the Technical Department and Plant unit for equipment availability and fault resolution.
- Maintain accurate operational logs and Control Room records.
Requirements
- HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Transport Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in terminal or port operations.
- At least 3 years in a supervisory or control room role.
- Experience in vessel planning or yard operations coordination is an advantage.
- Port or Shipping Operations Training.
- Proficiency in Terminal Operating System (TOS).
- Strong coordination, multitasking, and communication skills.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a 24/7 shift environment.
- High level of situational awareness and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret operational dashboards and productivity metrics.
