About the role
Lindii Peace Foundation (LPF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting peace and reducing poverty in Nigeria. We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Midwife to join our team in Maiduguri, Borno. This is a contract position focused on providing safe, respectful, and quality care to women, newborns, and their families in a humanitarian context.
The successful candidate will work closely with medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and community health workers to ensure maternal and newborn survival, patient safety, and quality reproductive health services.
Responsibilities
- Antenatal Care: Conduct routine maternal assessments, monitor fetal wellbeing, identify high-risk pregnancies, and provide counselling on nutrition and birth preparedness.
- Labour and Delivery: Monitor maternal and fetal conditions, promote respectful maternity care, conduct normal deliveries, and recognize obstetric complications for timely referral.
- Emergency Care: Provide immediate interventions for obstetric and newborn emergencies, support stabilization prior to referral, and manage conditions like postpartum haemorrhage and eclampsia.
- Postnatal and Newborn Care: Promote breastfeeding, conduct routine newborn assessments, monitor for postpartum complications, and provide follow-up care.
- Reproductive Health: Provide family planning counselling, support informed choices, and maintain accurate records.
- Health Education: Educate clients on pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, and infection prevention.
- Infection Control: Apply hand hygiene, use PPE appropriately, and maintain a clean clinical environment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate clinical records, registers, and contribute to health data reporting.
- Referral: Identify cases requiring higher-level care, complete referral documentation, and support continuity of care.
Requirements
- Qualifications: Bachelor of Midwifery Science (B.Mid), Registered Midwife (RM), or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Licence: Valid registration and current practising licence with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional midwifery experience, including antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, clinical judgment, ability to work under pressure, and commitment to patient-centred care.
- Desirable: Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or in conflict-affected environments is an advantage.
