Lagos Governor urges NYSC corps members to build entrepreneurial skills

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has encouraged newly deployed corps members to focus on acquiring practical skills and entrepreneurial abilities rather than relying solely on white-collar employment.

The governor made the remark on Friday at the opening of the 2026 Batch C Stream Two orientation course in Lagos. He emphasised that national service should go beyond statutory obligations to include developing innovative solutions for community challenges.

Sanwo-Olu urged participants to approach the programme with an open mind and to identify skills that align with their interests. He noted that in the current economic environment, academic qualifications must be complemented by creativity and practical experience.

The State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, stated that 11,224 prospective corps members were deployed to the state. She disclosed that due to accommodation constraints at the Iyana-Ipaja camp, some members have been relocated to neighbouring states for their three-week orientation.

The coordinator also highlighted the ongoing construction of a permanent orientation camp at Agbowa, Ikorodu, which will provide a better environment for future batches.
