About the role

Lindii Peace Foundation (LPF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting peace and reducing poverty in Nigeria. We are currently recruiting a Laboratory Technician to join our health programme in Borno. This is a contract position that requires strong technical competence, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient confidentiality and safe laboratory practices.

The successful candidate will work closely with medical doctors, nurses, midwives, and other healthcare personnel to support timely diagnosis and quality patient care. You will ensure that all laboratory activities comply with approved clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, and professional regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine laboratory investigations, including haematology, urinalysis, stool examination, and malaria testing.
  • Collect, process, label, and track patient specimens to ensure accuracy and prevent mix-ups.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring it is clean, functional, and properly calibrated.
  • Manage inventory of reagents, test kits, and consumables, including monitoring expiry dates and preparing requisitions.
  • Implement quality assurance and internal quality control procedures to ensure reliable results.
  • Apply infection prevention and control measures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe waste disposal.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory registers, test records, and patient documentation.
  • Communicate critical or abnormal findings to authorized clinicians promptly.

Requirements

  • National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or equivalent qualification in Medical Laboratory Technology or Science.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in laboratory services or a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Valid registration and current practising licence with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate laboratory records.
  • Strong attention to detail, professional integrity, and commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance, biosafety, and biomedical waste management.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
