About the role
Caava Group is a holding company transforming the African insurance sector through businesses like Caava Evolve, Caava AI, and Agencify. We are looking for a Frontend Engineer to join the Evolve team. Evolve is an insurance management platform used by AIICO, built with Spring Boot services and Angular/Next.js frontends.
This is an entry-level position suitable for candidates with internship, academic, or personal project experience. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to build user journeys, test features, and gain practical knowledge of insurance workflows. The role is hybrid, based in Lagos, and offers a clear career path towards becoming an Associate Software Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Evolve screens using Angular or Next.js, adhering to agreed designs and coding standards.
- Integrate REST APIs and handle validation, loading, empty, and error states.
- Write and maintain unit and component tests, covering normal, boundary, and failure cases.
- Submit small, reviewable changes via Git branches and pull requests, applying feedback from code reviews.
- Investigate issues using browser developer tools, logs, and test environments.
- Collaborate with backend engineers, Product, and QA to clarify requirements and API contracts.
- Follow secure frontend practices, ensuring credentials and customer data are kept out of client code.
Requirements
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical training.
- Foundational skills in TypeScript or JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience with a component framework such as Angular, React, or Next.js from coursework, internships, or projects.
- Understanding of component structure, state management, forms, and responsive layout.
- Basic knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, and version control with Git.
- Ability to write basic automated tests and use documentation to solve problems.
- Strong attention to detail, clear communication, and a collaborative working style.
