The Bridge for Women Development Initiative (BOWDI) is a non-profit organisation founded in 2013 that focuses on empowering women and girls in Nigeria. It operates primarily in conflict-affected and underserved regions of the Northeast and Northwest, with a presence in seven states including Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Niger. The organisation’s headquarters is located in Maiduguri, Borno State, and it maintains a liaison office in Abuja as well as sub-offices in Adamawa and Yobe states.
BOWDI implements community-led programs aimed at addressing the root causes of inequality and vulnerability. Its work covers protection, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, education, livelihoods, food security, and peacebuilding. The organisation describes itself as having impacted over three million lives across its operational areas. It combines direct service delivery with capacity building, advocacy, and systems strengthening, often in partnership with local leaders and stakeholders.
