ActionAid Nigeria is a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-partisan organisation established in 1999 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 2007. It operates as an affiliate member of the ActionAid International Federation, a global network with a presence in over 70 countries.
The organisation focuses on achieving social justice, gender equality, and poverty eradication. It works with people living in poverty and exclusion, their communities, social movements, and activists to shift power dynamics and promote equality. Its approach involves mobilising citizens to demand accountability, challenge inequalities, and improve access to services and dignified employment.
ActionAid Nigeria collaborates with state and non-state actors, including governments, civil society organisations, and private sector entities. It places particular emphasis on working with young people, youth-focused organisations, and activists to enhance their rights and agency. The organisation’s work is guided by values such as mutual respect, equity, integrity, and independence from religious or party-political affiliations.
Headquartered in Abuja, the organisation is led by a Country Director and a management team that includes directors for programmes, people and culture, and business development. It maintains a board of directors comprising various members and officers to oversee its operations and strategic direction.
