About the role

West Africa Vocational Academies is recruiting a Commercial Lawyer to join the Corporate & Commercial Practice team of a reputable law firm based in Ikoyi, Lagos. This is a high-responsibility position for a legally qualified professional with strong commercial expertise. You will manage transactions from start to finish, provide practical advice, and help clients achieve their business goals. The role offers a hybrid work schedule with four days on-site and one day remote.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of commercial transactions, ensuring compliance and timely execution.
  • Conduct legal due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, investments, and corporate restructuring.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, including service, supply, and shareholder agreements.
  • Identify legal and commercial risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
  • Build strong client relationships and attend meetings, negotiations, and strategy sessions.
  • Provide legal advice on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and company secretarial matters.
  • Monitor legislative changes and develop thought leadership content on emerging legal issues.
  • Support business registration, licensing, and post-incorporation compliance requirements.
  • Prepare incorporation documents, board resolutions, and statutory filings.
  • Maintain accurate records of client instructions and transaction documentation.
  • Supervise interns, paralegals, and junior associates as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and BL qualification.
  • 4-6 years of post-call experience in Commercial and Corporate Law.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Experience conducting legal due diligence and supporting corporate transactions.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian corporate, commercial, and regulatory laws.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions while meeting deadlines.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
