About the role
Join Gusto’s Payroll, Tax & Compliance Services team to help small business owners navigate complex tax issues. As a Tax Resolution Advocate, you will act as a detective and problem-solver, identifying the root causes of payroll discrepancies and resolving tax notices. You will work closely with tax agencies and internal teams to ensure customers receive timely, accurate support. This is a hands-on role that values research, analysis, and a strong customer-first mindset.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service via email and phone to simplify the tax notice experience.
- Research and resolve payroll tax notices on behalf of customers with guidance from senior team members.
- Communicate with government agencies to advocate for Gusto’s customers under supervision.
- Collaborate with Compliance, Engagement, and Tax Operations teams to improve processes.
- Manage a daily queue of tax notices, updating cases and informing customers of changes.
- Actively use current AI tools to enhance workplace applications and efficiency.
Requirements
- 2-4 years of payroll experience; notice resolution experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under guidance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics.
- AI fluency and a mindset to help shape new AI tool functionality.
- Highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Pay and benefits
- Competitive base pay: $23.50/hr to $25.46/hr for Denver; $21.80-$24.52 for Phoenix and most remote locations.
