Datadog is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the future of its anomaly detection platform. You will work on high-scale distributed systems that process streaming and batch data, collaborating with machine learning systems to automatically identify potential issues in customer environments. Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and evolution of large-scale distributed systems powering automated anomaly detection.
- Design and improve high-throughput streaming and batch processing pipelines for timely and reliable issue detection.
- Drive technical initiatives to simplify, consolidate, and modernize existing systems for better scalability and efficiency.
- Partner with engineering leaders, product managers, and data scientists to define long-term technical strategy.
- Shape how anomaly detection capabilities are delivered across Datadog products to help customers identify issues without manual setup.
- Provide technical leadership across engineering teams and influence architectural decisions.
Requirements
- Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems, particularly high-throughput or data-intensive backend platforms.
- Strong understanding of streaming and batch processing architectures, including low-latency data processing challenges.
- Experience leading complex architectural initiatives and making technical tradeoffs to improve reliability and maintainability.
- Ability to drive technical strategy beyond your immediate team and collaborate with engineering leaders and product partners.
- Comfort working across technologies and learning new systems; experience with Flink, Kafka, Cassandra, Go, or Python is a plus.
- A product-oriented mindset connecting technical decisions to customer outcomes; familiarity with machine learning systems or deploying models in production is a plus but not required.
Pay and benefits
The reasonably estimated yearly salary for this role is $244,000 to $305,000 USD. Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, which may include variable compensation.
