About the role
Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Developer Infrastructure group within Platform. You will own the core tools and systems that Coinbase engineers rely on to build and ship software. This role focuses on scalable CI, build infrastructure, and deployment orchestration, where improvements benefit thousands of engineers. The company operates on a remote-first model but requires quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”
Responsibilities
- Own core developer infrastructure platforms, including CI/build systems and deployment orchestration, from design through production operation.
- Identify high-leverage problems and turn ambiguous challenges into concrete technical roadmaps.
- Drive significant improvements to build time, deploy speed, and developer feedback latency.
- Lead cross-cutting initiatives, such as large-scale platform migrations, across multiple teams.
- Raise reliability standards by owning SLOs, observability, and on-call responsibilities.
- Partner with engineering customers and leadership to shape technical strategy and drive adoption.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building and operating production distributed systems.
- Hands-on proficiency in Go or a comparable systems language.
- Direct experience in CI/CD, build systems, or deployment tooling.
- Track record of designing high-impact backend or platform systems used by many engineers.
- Demonstrated technical leadership on cross-team initiatives and architectural direction.
- Deep operational expertise in designing for reliability, observability, and fast recovery.
- Ability to drive alignment on ambiguous problems and mentor other engineers.
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.
Pay and benefits
The annual base salary range is $218,025 to $256,500 USD. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans.
