About the role
Okta is seeking a Staff Product Designer to serve as a foundational design lead for its global user experience infrastructure. You will join the Product Platform group as a resident expert and strategic thought partner. Your work will shape horizontal design patterns, design architecture, localization frameworks, and accessibility standards that power every Okta Workforce Identity product. This is a high-impact individual contributor role where you will act as a bridge between the Design Systems team and feature teams.
Responsibilities
- UI & System Leadership: Partner with the Design Systems team to identify, create, and document scalable, accessible (WCAG), and localized patterns.
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with cross-functional UI Platform leads to align vision with design strategy and co-own the roadmap.
- Raise the Craft: Enable Research and Development teams through clear alignment and documentation, while mentoring designers to promote craft excellence.
- Data-Informed Decisions: Leverage data and AI insights to inform platform-level design decisions and streamline governance.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as a Product Designer.
- Degree in a related field or relevant work experience.
- Proficiency in Figma, Miro, Balsamiq, or similar design tools.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Strong systems-thinking lens and ability to identify elegant, extensible solutions.
- Experience leading complex projects across conceptual, interaction, information architecture, and visual design.
- Must attend in-person orientation in Chicago or San Francisco.
- Must go into the local office 2 days a week.
Pay and benefits
- US Base Salary: $156,000 – $215,000 (for candidates in California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington).
- Canada Base Salary: CAD 140,000 – CAD 175,000.
- Additional Compensation: Equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) or RRSP with match, flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave).
