About the role

GitLab is seeking a Solutions Architect to serve as a trusted technical advisor for State, Local, and Education (SLED) customers east of the Mississippi River. You will guide state agencies, counties, cities, and universities in modernizing their IT infrastructure using GitLab’s DevSecOps platform and AI capabilities. This role focuses on helping public sector organizations protect sensitive data, meet compliance requirements, and optimize limited IT resources.

The position is remote but requires the candidate to reside in the Northeast part of the United States. You will partner with account executives and channel partners to support customers through the entire sales cycle, from initial evaluation to successful deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored demos, technical presentations, and hands-on workshops to SLED customers both onsite and remotely.
  • Own the technical evaluation process, including designing and delivering proofs of concept (POC) and proofs of value (POV).
  • Provide technical responses for RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, and security questionnaires.
  • Guide customers through security and compliance frameworks such as GovRAMP and NIST SP 800-53.
  • Assist agencies in modernizing legacy applications, including mainframe systems, using GitLab and AI-assisted development.
  • Advise customers on responsible AI adoption, including the GitLab Duo Agent Platform, in line with state policies and data privacy requirements.
  • Collaborate with systems integrators and resellers to scale GitLab adoption across multiple agencies or campuses.
  • Build data-driven business cases that quantify delivery bottlenecks and return on investment for budget requests.
  • Channel SLED customer feedback on procurement, compliance, and deployment needs to internal Product, Sales, and Marketing teams.

Requirements

  • Background in technical pre-sales, consulting, or IT roles serving state agencies, local governments, or universities.
  • Working knowledge of SLED technology procurement processes, including RFP cycles, cooperative purchasing agreements, and fiscal-year budgeting.
  • Hands-on experience using GitLab and familiarity with CI/CD, DevSecOps, and automation practices.
  • Experience with cloud, hybrid, and self-managed deployments in regulated environments, including government cloud regions.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks common in the public sector, such as GovRAMP and NIST SP 800-53.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting to both technical teams and non-technical leaders like CIOs and procurement officers.
  • Residence in the Northeast United States and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Pay and benefits

  • Flexible Paid Time Off.
  • Equity Compensation and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Growth and Development Fund.
  • Parental Leave.
  • Team Member Resource Groups.
