About the role
Coinbase is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Blockchain Data Platform team. You will help build an ultra-low-latency indexing platform that ingests and serves data across major blockchains. This role is part of a small, AI-native team focused on making blockchain indexing as easy as using a managed database. The position is remote-first, but you should expect to attend quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”
Responsibilities
- Build and operate distributed systems for real-time blockchain data ingestion, indexing, and query.
- Own key initiatives such as new chain integrations, migrations, and backfills to improve latency and reliability.
- Partner with product teams to define data contracts and contribute to SDKs and primitives.
- Execute architecture improvements across the indexing stack, focusing on partitioning, consistency, and storage boundaries.
- Support engineering quality through code reviews, testing, and leveraging AI tools to increase efficiency.
Requirements
- 2+ years of software engineering experience building and operating distributed or data systems in production.
- Solid systems design fundamentals, including partitioning, consistency/availability tradeoffs, and stream processing.
- Proficiency in a backend language such as Go and/or Python.
- Familiarity with technologies like Kafka, gRPC, Redis, S3, ClickHouse, or MongoDB.
- Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear designs with measurable impact.
- Blockchain or crypto data experience is a plus, including familiarity with chain data structures, finality, or RPC nodes.
- Responsibility in utilizing generative AI while maintaining human oversight.
Pay and benefits
- Annual base salary range: $152,405 – $179,300 USD (excluding equity and bonus).
- Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.
