About the role
ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Data Platform organization in San Diego, California. This is a full-time, hybrid position that requires working in a ServiceNow office two days per week. The role focuses on designing, building, and operating components within a cloud-native platform. Please note that this position supports US Regulated Markets and requires passing a USFedPASS background screening. Due to federal requirements, only US citizens, US naturalized citizens, or US Permanent Residents holding a green card will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate cloud-native platform components from design through production.
- Lead well-scoped projects by turning requirements into solid technical designs.
- Collaborate with senior, staff, and principal engineers to align work with platform architecture.
- Contribute to reliability, scalability, and operability through testing, instrumentation, and on-call participation.
- Develop operators, controllers, automation, and platform services used by other teams.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pairing sessions.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor’s degree, OR 8+ years with a Master’s degree, OR 5+ years with a PhD.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating workloads on Kubernetes.
- Working experience with at least one major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including core compute, networking, and IAM primitives.
- Strong programming skills in Go or another systems language with a willingness to work primarily in Go.
- Solid working knowledge of containers, CI/CD, GitOps-based delivery, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience leveraging or critically thinking about integrating AI into engineering work.
- US citizenship, US naturalized citizenship, or US Permanent Resident status (green card holder).
