About the role
Join Airbnb’s Data Infrastructure organization to help build a unified platform for moving data across the company. You will be part of the Ingestion team, which serves as the front door for the Data Movement & Transformation (DMT) group. This team builds and operates managed, multi-tenant platforms that move data from online databases for offline processing. Your work will support critical business functions such as payments, fraud detection, and machine learning.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate large-scale change data capture (CDC) and batch export systems.
- Work hands-on with code, design, and testing to deliver multi-month projects on time.
- Help shape the architecture of DMT’s unified data movement platform.
- Improve the reliability, performance, and efficiency of systems used by other teams.
- Make it easier for engineers to move data into offline systems without needing deep database expertise.
- Participate in on-call rotations and raise the operational standards for the platform.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and operating large-scale backend distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with streaming systems like Kafka and database change capture (binlogs, Debezium, or similar).
- Ability to own and navigate complex codebases.
- Experience maintaining, analyzing, and debugging production systems at scale.
- Commitment to writing clean, readable, and testable code.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills in a remote-working environment.
- Strong ownership and a track record of delivering projects on time.
Pay and benefits
The base pay range for this role is $196,000 to $230,000 USD. Actual pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
