About the role
Reddit is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Infrastructure Engineering team. This remote position within the United States focuses on delivering reliability, performance, and efficiency through a unified technology stack. You will work across high-impact areas such as messaging, compute, build and deployment, consumer identity and access management, core systems, and security. The goal is to empower Reddit developers with a robust foundation that maximizes velocity and system resilience.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Product Management, Design, and Engineering teams to translate business needs into low-latency technical solutions.
- Own the full software lifecycle for major initiatives, from design and API contracts to development, testing, and observability.
- Design and evaluate A/B experiments using tools like BigQuery or Firebase to make data-backed decisions.
- Build and maintain scalable APIs (GraphQL, REST, gRPC) and distributed backend services.
- Establish engineering best practices, mentor teammates, and utilize modern AI-integrated tools to improve workflows.
- Drive high-leverage projects that align with Reddit’s strategic goals.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building internet-scale software, preferably with a focus on machine learning storage infrastructure.
- Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Golang, Python, C++, or Java.
- Experience with essential cloud infrastructure including Kubernetes, CI/CD, AWS, or GCP.
- Hands-on experience implementing features and optimizations in distributed messaging systems.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders in engineering, data science, and product.
- A degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical field.
Pay and benefits
- Base salary range of $190,000 to $267,000 USD.
