About the role
Squarespace is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the data science and machine learning team. You will report to the VP of Data and oversee a group of 12 professionals, including three direct reports who manage their own teams. This hybrid position requires working from the New York City office three days per week. You will set the strategic direction for how the company uses AI, predictive modeling, and causal inference to drive customer acquisition, retention, and growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of 12, including managers and senior individual contributors.
- Define the technical roadmap for predictive models, causal inference, and AI evaluation systems.
- Apply data science to key business areas such as marketing measurement, sales growth, and risk modeling.
- Partner with product, engineering, and business leaders to translate statistical work into actionable decisions.
- Build systems and processes that improve the quality and speed of data science delivery.
- Evolve the team’s ML infrastructure and tooling as AI capabilities expand.
Requirements
- 12+ years in data science or machine learning, including experience leading technical teams.
- 5+ years managing managers, with the ability to develop senior contributors and team leads.
- Hands-on experience building or overseeing production predictive models, causal inference frameworks, or AI evaluation systems.
- Ability to align cross-functional partners and explain technical trade-offs to executives.
- Experience scaling a data science or ML function, including hiring and setting technical standards.
Pay and benefits
- Cash compensation range: $223,000 – $358,800 USD.
