About the role
Duolingo is seeking a Senior Director of Performance Marketing to lead paid user acquisition for its language, chess, and math products across more than 100 markets. You will own the global budget, strategy, and team, ensuring that every dollar spent delivers measurable value. This role involves setting high standards for craft and rigor while partnering with cross-functional teams to drive growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of performance marketers, including managers, fostering a culture of ownership and excellence.
- Manage the global paid acquisition budget across channels like Google, Apple Search Ads, Meta, TikTok, AppLovin, DSPs, and China platforms.
- Establish measurement standards using incrementality testing, saturation modeling, and LTV/ROI frameworks trusted by Finance.
- Translate channel performance into annual investment plans and defend these strategies to executive leadership.
- Build scalable creative production capabilities by combining agency, UGC, creator, and in-house work with robust testing infrastructure.
- Manage agency and ad tech partners, holding them accountable for goals, pacing, and quality.
- Coordinate spend with organic calendars, product launches, and seasonal trends in partnership with Social, Brand, and Country Marketing.
- Collaborate closely with Marketing Analytics, Finance, Product, Engineering, and Creative teams.
Requirements
- 12+ years in performance marketing or paid user acquisition, including 5+ years leading teams with managers reporting to you.
- Proven track record of owning large, multichannel mobile acquisition budgets at top subscription or high-engagement consumer apps.
- Deep experience building and defending incrementality tests, saturation analysis, and LTV/ROAS models.
- Fluency with mobile attribution methods, including MMPs, SKAN, and privacy-constrained measurement.
- Experience partnering with Product and Engineering on measurement infrastructure and user onboarding.
- Clear, fast written communication skills suitable for executive and board-level discussions.
- A mandatory portfolio submission showcasing relevant work samples.

- Base salary range: $236,800 – $355,200 USD.
