About the role
Roblox is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Audio-Video-Communication team. In this role, you will lead the development of a new real-time communication platform designed to support voice chat, 3D audio, and large-scale broadcasts for a global user base. You will work within the Engine team, reporting to the Manager of the Real-Time Communications team, to create immersive digital experiences for millions of users.
Responsibilities
- Build and launch a real-time communication platform from the ground up, capable of supporting billions of users.
- Write efficient, maintainable, and scalable code using best programming practices.
- Introduce high-quality communication features across a wide range of devices, from mobile to high-end platforms.
- Enhance the robustness and performance of existing system components.
- Collaborate with engineers across engine and partner teams to develop synergistic solutions.
Requirements
- Over 8 years of experience developing and deploying user-facing software products.
- Experience deploying high-quality, multi-service distributed systems at scale with low costs.
- Familiarity with challenges of working at scale and on constrained platforms like consoles or mobile devices.
- Experience in performance optimization, including work with Kernel, Assembly, C, and memory management.
- Proficiency in C++ and a strong understanding of parallel and concurrent programming concepts.
- Knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and design patterns.
- Ability to approach problems from multiple perspectives and weigh the advantages and drawbacks of different solutions.
Pay and benefits
- Annual Salary Range: $295,250 – $345,040 USD.
- Eligible for equity compensation.

- Onsite work schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.
