About the role
Pinterest is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the ML & Media Infrastructure team. This position involves setting the technical vision for model training and serving while ensuring fast, safe, and efficient delivery of AI/ML solutions. The role requires being within a commutable distance of the Palo Alto or San Francisco office for in-person collaboration one to two times per quarter.
Responsibilities
- Define the technical roadmap for model training and serving with reusable interfaces to data and feature infrastructure.
- Lead architectures for distributed training, fine-tuning, and high-scale CPU/GPU inference.
- Oversee architectures for content acquisition, media ingestion, and signal processing.
- Improve efficiency in data loading, GPU kernels, memory management, and scheduling.
- Partner with Ads and Core AI/ML teams to productionize features and models at scale.
- Mentor senior engineers and drive cross-organizational architecture decisions.
Requirements
- Track record of setting technical strategy and delivering company-wide infrastructure initiatives.
- Deep expertise in distributed ML systems with production experience in large-scale training and online inference.
- Strong knowledge of GPU performance, including profiling, kernel optimization, and quantization.
- Experience with AI/ML modeling, recommender systems, or ads ranking.
- Background in content acquisition, crawlers, or near real-time data processing.
- Strong systems programming skills in C++, Java, or Python.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Pay and benefits
The base salary range for this position is $285,452 to $449,541. The role is also eligible for equity. Final salary depends on factors such as location, prior experience, and specific skills. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
