About the role
SpaceX is hiring an OT Network Engineer to join the Mission Systems / IT Launch engineering team. You will provide operational and design services for networks used by launch and production operations, automation and controls engineering, and facilities teams. This role requires a strong sense of urgency balanced with operational excellence in intense, high-flux environments.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement highly available networks, balancing routing and redundancy technologies for production and launch requirements.
- Maintain mission data center and site networks in accordance with company standards.
- Evaluate, procure, and deploy network hardware such as switches, firewalls, and SD-WAN appliances.
- Contribute to network automation tooling, including configuration analysis and linting.
- Plan and coordinate network outage windows for updates and maintenance, which may occur on weekends or evenings.
- Troubleshoot network issues and publish root cause analysis documentation.
- Provide direct networking support during launch and test campaigns, including on-call duties.
- Proactively tailor network monitoring to detect issues before they impact operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve potential technical issues.
- Ensure networks comply with industry and cybersecurity standards such as ITAR, ISO, and NIST.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other STEM discipline and 3+ years of professional network engineering experience; OR 5+ years of professional network engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
- Ability to pass a DoD background check for launch site access.
- Availability for extended hours, weekends, and 24×7 on-call support in emergency situations.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%, including flying to other sites worldwide and potential time at sea.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs, work at heights, and drive with an active valid driver’s license.
- To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
