About the role

Gusto’s Finance team is transforming planning, forecasting, and analysis by placing AI at the center of the workflow. As a Staff FP&A AI Architect, you will design the technical and process architecture that shifts FP&A from manual, spreadsheet-driven cycles to an automated, insight-generating function. This new position sits on the Enterprise AI team and requires a hybrid skill set: deep finance knowledge paired with the ability to design data and AI systems. You will partner closely with the CFO organization, FP&A, Accounting, Data, and Engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Define the multi-year architecture and roadmap for AI-enabled planning, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Architect driver-based, ML-assisted forecasting systems for revenue, headcount, opex, and cash.
  • Build agentic workflows for variance commentary, flux analysis, scenario modeling, and board narratives.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering to establish governed data models connecting GL, billing, CRM, HRIS, and planning tools.
  • Implement controls, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and audit trails that meet SOX, security, and privacy requirements.
  • Drive build-vs-buy decisions for planning platforms, LLM providers, and orchestration frameworks.
  • Mentor analysts and engineers while creating reusable patterns to drive AI adoption across Finance.
  • Measure and report on cycle-time reduction, forecast accuracy, and decision latency.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in FP&A, corporate finance, finance systems, data science, or finance engineering.
  • 3+ years designing or leading AI/ML or advanced automation for finance.
  • Strong FP&A fundamentals including driver-based modeling, operating plans, rolling forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, agentic systems, and classical forecasting methods.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, modern data stacks (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, dbt), and BI tools.
  • Experience with enterprise planning platforms and ERP/GL systems.
  • Track record of shipping production-grade solutions under SOX, data governance, and security review.
  • Exceptional communication skills to explain model behavior to executives and system design to engineers.
