About the role
DoorDash is looking for an Engineering Manager with a machine learning background to lead the Personalization engineering team. This team is part of the Core Consumer organization and owns the top of the conversion funnel, from the landing page to checkout. Your mission is to redefine the personalization experience by building ML ranking and recommendation systems that maximize value for consumers, merchants, and DoorDash. In 2027, the team aims to reimagine personalization from the ground up, including an intent agent that predicts consumer needs at app open and real-time ranking that adapts to live signals.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of ML engineers to build an intent agent that makes granular predictions of consumer intent at app open.
- Utilize LLMs and Deep Learning (GNN, MTL, Transformers) to enhance semantic understanding of ranked entities.
- Extend the content blender to integrate different verticals and business lines, such as reservations and ads.
- Implement real-time ranking systems that react to consumer signals as they occur.
- Coach and empower engineers to deliver end-to-end personalization experiences using state-of-the-art ML approaches.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to define the roadmap and vision.
Requirements
- B.S., M.S., or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 7+ years of industry experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
- Broad knowledge of machine learning with a strong ML modeling foundation.
- Extensive experience in building user-facing products and working directly with product managers.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to partner with cross-functional teams.
Pay and benefits
The national base pay range for this position within the United States, including Illinois and Colorado, is $193,800 – $285,000. Starting pay is determined by skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. In addition to base salary, the compensation package includes opportunities for equity grants.
