About the role
Vennote Technologies is looking for a skilled Unix System Administrator with a specialization in Rancher to join our enterprise infrastructure team. This full-time hybrid position is based in Lagos. You will manage Unix/Linux environments and focus on container orchestration and cluster management using SUSE Rancher. The role bridges traditional enterprise Linux administration with modern cloud-native infrastructure to ensure high availability and security.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and manage enterprise Kubernetes clusters across production and non-production environments using SUSE Rancher.
- Optimize Rancher for multi-cluster management, including provisioning, upgrading, and day-2 operations.
- Diagnose and resolve complex container orchestration issues, ingress routing problems, and node-level failures.
- Administer, install, and configure Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Solaris, and Oracle Linux environments.
- Manage and optimize bare-metal and virtualized server performance to support containerized workloads.
- Lead technology refresh projects to keep infrastructure modern and scalable.
- Handle user account lifecycles, group policies, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) in Linux and Rancher.
- Monitor server performance, network traffic, and Kubernetes cluster health.
- Execute backup and restore activities using Velero and traditional OS backups.
- Collaborate with vendors like Red Hat, Oracle, and SUSE for Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Implement security policies, system hardening, and container security best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 4–6 years of hands-on experience as a Unix/Linux Systems Administrator.
- At least 2 years of experience actively managing Kubernetes/Rancher environments.
- Deep hands-on experience with SUSE Rancher, Docker, and Kubernetes architecture.
- Proficiency in Bash, Python, or Perl for automation and monitoring.
- Expert-level knowledge of RHEL, Solaris, and Oracle Linux.
- Strong knowledge of SELinux, IPTables/Firewalld, and CIS benchmarks.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) is essential.
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Rancher-specific certifications are highly desired.
- ITIL v4 Foundation certification is highly valued.
