About the role
Coinbase is looking for a Senior Investigator to join the Financial Intelligence Unit within Compliance. You will help drive financial crime investigations across multiple jurisdictions, focusing on both reactive and proactive measures. This remote-first role requires quarterly in-person working sessions known as “surges.”
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end investigations into complex AML/CFT matters, from initial alert review to final SAR/STR submission.
- Conduct delegated MLRO reviews of suspicious transaction reports to ensure accuracy and regulatory defensibility.
- Lead proactive investigations using transaction data, on-chain activity, and OSINT to identify emerging threat patterns.
- Develop actionable intelligence to inform escalations, regulatory reporting, and control enhancements.
- Partner with Country MLROs, local compliance teams, and law enforcement agencies on high-risk matters.
- Support investigation quality through case review, structured feedback, and contributions to policies and training.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience conducting and reviewing complex crypto financial crime investigations across retail and institutional products.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, and filing SARs/STRs with a strong understanding of multi-jurisdiction AML/CTF regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to perform data-driven investigations using SQL, blockchain analytics tools, and other research techniques.
- Strong investigative judgement and the ability to produce clear, structured long-form reports for various audiences.
- Experience identifying financial crime typologies and turning findings into programme or control improvements.
- Ability to utilise generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight.
Pay and benefits
- Annual base salary range: £55,620 – £61,800.
