About the scholarship

The University of British Columbia (UBC) International Scholars Program offers four prestigious need-and-merit-based awards to international students. These awards recognize exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to social impact. The program includes the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award, the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award, the International Impact Award, and the Vantage One Excellence Award.

What it covers

The value of the award is proportional to your financial need. Financial need is determined by calculating tuition, fees, and living costs, then subtracting the financial contribution you and your family can make. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or to degree completion, provided you maintain satisfactory academic standing and continue to demonstrate financial need.

Who can apply

  • International students studying in Canada on a study permit.
  • Students entering UBC from a recognized secondary school or transferring from their first year at a post-secondary institution.
  • Applicants for their first undergraduate degree.
  • Students with superior academic achievement (all As or equivalent).
  • Students demonstrating financial need that would otherwise prevent them from pursuing a UBC degree.

How to apply

You must be nominated by your school or a non-profit organization and submit a reference from an academic referee. UBC will automatically consider you for the awards you are eligible for.
