About the role

We are an indigenous non-profit organization based in Abuja, dedicated to improving the lives of Nigerians living with or affected by HIV. We are currently seeking a Study Research Consultant to support the IMPAACT4HIV Project. This is a three-and-a-half-year multi-country initiative funded by UNITAID, focusing on improving access to care for children with advanced HIV disease (AHD) in Nigeria and five other African countries.

The consultant will lead the desk review component of a situational assessment study. This study aims to identify gaps and opportunities in the diagnosis and treatment of severe bacterial infections (SBIs) among people with AHD in Nigeria. The role involves reviewing existing evidence, guidelines, and policies to inform recommendations for better SBI management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a comprehensive desk review of national and subnational HIV, AHD, infectious disease, and antimicrobial resistance guidelines.
  • Assess how existing guidelines address SBI diagnosis, empiric antibiotic treatment, and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Review published and grey literature regarding SBI burden, pathogens, and resistance patterns in Nigeria.
  • Develop an inception report detailing the methodology, search strategy, and analysis framework.
  • Create a document inventory and a data extraction matrix covering key domains such as SBI management and antibiotic use.
  • Synthesize findings to produce a draft and final desk review report with strategic recommendations.
  • Validate findings with the study team and relevant stakeholders, including NASCP representatives.

Requirements

  • Advanced Degree (Master’s or higher) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Health Systems, Global Health, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in public health research, programme evaluation, or evidence synthesis.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting systematic or desk reviews.
  • Strong knowledge of HIV programming, AHD, opportunistic infections, and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Experience reviewing health policies, guidelines, and technical documents.
  • Experience working in Nigeria’s HIV programme environment is preferred.
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical reports for donors and government stakeholders.
