About the role
Mykrogrid Limited is a clean energy company focused on providing reliable and affordable power solutions to underserved communities and businesses. We are looking for a Solar Design Engineer to join our team in Benin-City, Edo. This full-time position involves creating complete design packages for commercial and small-to-medium business (SMB) solar energy systems. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are technically viable, commercially feasible, and meet customer energy needs.
Responsibilities
- Determine optimal system capacity and equipment configuration based on customer load profiles.
- Integrate generator and grid connections with solar and battery equipment.
- Develop technical documents such as single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, solar panel layouts, and bills of quantities.
- Package design work clearly for installation teams and collaborate with them to ensure designs are followed.
- Conduct technical inspections of customer facilities, including roof structures, land availability, and electrical infrastructure.
- Measure installation areas using surveying tools and assess shading, orientation, and structural integrity.
- Prepare detailed site assessment reports.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant technical standards and building codes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related discipline.
- COREN registration is an advantage.
- 3 to 4 years of hands-on experience with solar system installation.
- Experience on systems larger than 100kWp is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with solar system design tools such as CAD, Helioscope, OpenSolar, or similar software.
- Experience designing systems larger than 50kWp.
- Technical skills in Solar PV Design, Site Survey Techniques, Electrical Load Analysis, CAD & Panel layout design, and Engineering Documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, communication, and accountability.
