About the role
FairMoney is building the leading mobile bank for emerging markets. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build the core systems that everything else depends on, including identity verification, KYC, authentication, payments, and mobile app flows. This role is based in Abuja on a hybrid schedule. We value ownership, responsibility, and autonomy, giving you the space to lead projects from start to finish without micromanagement.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex technical projects end-to-end, from system design through implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Build and maintain reliable distributed systems backing payments, ledgers, and mobile app APIs for millions of customers.
- Work closely with Product, Risk, and Compliance teams to turn regulatory requirements into secure software.
- Integrate AI coding agents into your daily workflow to increase throughput and improve shipping speed.
- Contribute to architecture, engineering standards, and code reviews while mentoring other engineers.
Requirements
- 3+ years of backend engineering experience with a solid foundation in software engineering principles, system design, and CI/CD.
- Experience working in Identity, KYC, fraud, authentication, or related domains, ideally within financial services.
- Experience with Go, or deep backend experience in another language with a willingness to transition to Go.
- Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and LLM-assisted development workflows.
- Clear, simple, and structured communication skills—both oral and written.
- Interest and potential to take on people leadership and team management in the future.
