About the role
Western Development Company Limited (WDCL) is an independent limited liability company established in Nigeria over 13 years ago. As the sole representative for various overseas companies in Information Technology, Telecommunications, and Engineering, WDCL is seeking a commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel. This full-time position is based in Lagos and reports directly to the Managing Director.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice to management on contracts, business transactions, and corporate governance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, service contracts, and leases.
- Oversee statutory filings, license renewals, and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Coordinate corporate insurance policies, claims, and risk coverage.
- Manage legal documentation for company properties, including tenancy agreements and transactions.
- Support company secretarial functions, including board resolutions and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) filings.
- Monitor Oil & Gas regulatory requirements and manage external legal disputes.
Requirements
- LL.B. Degree from a recognised institution.
- Current qualification to practise as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of relevant post-call experience.
- Experience in the Oil & Gas industry or related sectors such as engineering or marine services is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in contract management, statutory compliance, and risk assessment.
- High professional integrity and the ability to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice.
