About the role
Kredete is a fintech platform that helps African immigrants in the diaspora build credit via international transfers and offers businesses secure cross-border payment infrastructure. We are seeking a seasoned Security Engineer to protect our critical digital assets and infrastructure from evolving cyber threats. In this position, you will act as the frontline defender, implementing robust security measures, hunting for vulnerabilities, and responding rapidly to incidents to ensure system integrity, confidentiality, and availability.
Responsibilities
- Lead security incident response, including containment, eradication, and forensic analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Implement and enforce IT security policies and controls, ensuring compliance with standards like ISO 27001 or the NDPA.
- Continuously monitor security alerts from SIEM, EDR, firewalls, and other systems to detect malicious activity.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration tests on networks, applications, and cloud environments.
- Develop scripts in Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate repetitive security tasks.
- Contribute to company-wide security training initiatives to foster a culture of awareness.
- Configure, manage, and optimize security infrastructure such as firewalls, WAF, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity roles such as Security Engineer, SOC Analyst, or Network Security Administrator.
- Strong grasp of common cyber threats, attack vectors, and vulnerability management lifecycles.
- Deep understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, and network segmentation.
- Practical experience with core security tools: Firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet), SIEM (Splunk, Elastic, Sentinel), and EDR (CrowdStrike, SentinelOne).
- Strong administration skills for both Windows and Linux environments.
- Hands-on experience securing cloud platforms, preferably AWS or Azure.
- Ability to communicate complex security concepts clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Nice to have:
- Passion for continuous learning and staying updated with security trends.
- Experience with internal or external security audits.
- Knowledge of securing containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with scripting for automation using Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Professional certifications such as CEH, CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or CISSP (Associate).
