About the role
Extension Africa (EXAF) is a data-driven agritech platform that provides private extension services to value chain actors. We are looking for a Research Officer (Behavioral Research & Economics) to integrate behavioral science into the design and delivery of advisory and business services for farmers, agents, and vendors.
Based in Kano or Abuja, you will lead behavioral research into our users and translate findings directly into product, service, and commercial decisions. This role sits within the Research & Evaluation department. The position is a 12-month contract, renewable subject to performance and funding, with up to 20% field travel required.
Responsibilities
- Lead behavioral enquiry into users to inform product, service, and commercial decisions.
- Translate research findings into actionable insights for the wider research portfolio.
- Conduct fieldwork in rural communities as required.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Behavioral Science, Behavioral or Applied Economics, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field.
- 3–5 years of applied research experience, including demonstrable behavioral or experimental work.
- Experience designing and analyzing experiments (randomized trials, A/B tests, lab-in-the-field, or discrete choice experiments).
- Strong quantitative skills in regression analysis and causal inference using Stata, R, or Python.
- Competence in qualitative methods such as in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, observation, and structured coding.
- Excellent academic and plain-English writing skills.
- Willingness to conduct fieldwork in rural communities.
- Advantages: PhD or advanced research training, publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and working proficiency in Hausa or another relevant Nigerian language.
