About the scholarship
The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) offers the Nordic Scholarship Programme for the 2027/2028 academic year. This initiative aims to build capacity in knowledge production about Africa and strengthen connections with Nordic research communities. The scholarship provides a one-month stay at the Institute in Uppsala, Sweden, allowing researchers to utilize NAI’s extensive library collections on contemporary Africa and collaborate with existing research hosts.
What it covers
- Travel expenses for the least expensive fare from the applicant’s residence in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland to Uppsala and return.
- Free accommodation centrally located in Uppsala.
- A subsistence allowance of SEK 450 per day.
- Access to a workspace with a desk and computer in a shared office at the Institute.
Note: The scholarship does not include health care insurance or other insurances.
Who can apply
- Master’s students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, or mid-career researchers.
- Applicants must be pursuing Africa-oriented studies or research within the social sciences or humanities.
- Citizenship is not a restriction, but applicants must be affiliated with and based at a university or research centre in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland at the time of application and during the stay.
