About the role
HBM Nigeria Plc, formerly Lafarge Africa Plc, is a leading Nigerian building solutions company and a member of the Huaxin Building Materials Group. We are currently seeking a Mobile Plant Operator to join our team in Sagamu, Ogun. This full-time position focuses on ensuring quarry operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. You will be involved in overall quarry operations, including overburden removal, loading, hauling, and transporting raw materials to the crushing plant, stockpiles, and tipping areas.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain mobile equipment such as loaders, haul trucks, dozers, graders, and excavators in line with safety regulations.
- Perform mechanical inspections, servicing, and maintenance, including checking controls, completing logbooks, and ensuring good housekeeping.
- Recognize unusual machine movements and sounds to operate equipment effectively.
- Follow all safety procedures, check for hazards, and take corrective action to eliminate identified risks.
- Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication, including hand signals, from operators and ground personnel.
- Maintain safe working conditions while operating in crowded, fast-paced environments.
- Conduct field-level pre-job hazard analyses and assess tasks before commencement.
- Communicate daily work requirements with the onsite supervisor and adhere to all orders and instructions.
Requirements
- Relevant Degree or equivalent qualification, or a recognized Trade Test certification/license.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the cement industry.
- Minimum of 4–5 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and machine main systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
