About the role

Save the Children Nigeria is seeking a Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Officer (MHPSS) to join our team in Borno. This is a 6-month contract position within the Programme Operations division. You will report to the MHPSS Coordinator and work closely with case workers, facilitators, and community mobilizers to support vulnerable children, adolescents, and caregivers.

The role focuses on the day-to-day implementation and quality assurance of MHPSS interventions. You will help strengthen community-based services and integrate mental health support across Child Protection, Education, Health, and Nutrition programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor MHPSS activities, including HEART, psychosocial support groups, and caregiver sessions.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits to ensure programme quality and adherence to standards.
  • Train, mentor, and provide supportive supervision to facilitators, volunteers, and community workers.
  • Identify vulnerable individuals and ensure safe, timely referrals to specialized services.
  • Collect, manage, and report programme data while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Coordinate with government authorities, partners, schools, and health facilities to improve service delivery.
  • Support staff well-being initiatives and encourage self-care among frontline workers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health, Psychiatric Nursing, Public Health, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience implementing MHPSS programs in humanitarian, development, or community settings.
  • Knowledge of IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, caregivers, and conflict-affected communities.
  • Strong facilitation, training, and communication skills.
  • Previous experience with NGOs/INGOs in emergency or displacement contexts is desirable.
