About the role
A reputable hospitality company in Lagos is looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Internal Auditor. This full-time position involves independently assessing the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management processes, and operational compliance. The role requires a thorough understanding of hospitality operations, particularly in cash management, inventory, payroll, procurement, and revenue assurance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute risk-based internal audit plans covering financial, operational, and administrative activities.
- Conduct periodic and unannounced departmental audits to assess adherence to established policies and controls.
- Identify financial irregularities, operational inefficiencies, control weaknesses, and potential fraud risks.
- Audit daily cash collections, bank reconciliations, revenue records, and payment transactions for accuracy.
- Review stock receipts, transfers, consumption, wastage, and periodic inventory counts.
- Examine procurement transactions, vendor payments, purchase approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Audit payroll records, benefits, deductions, and other personnel-related expenses.
- Prepare clear audit reports describing findings, risk implications, and recommended corrective action.
- Present findings to management and track the implementation of audit recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification in ICAN, ACCA, or CIA.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in internal audit, risk management, or financial controls.
- Previous auditing experience in the hospitality industry is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, audit methodologies, financial reporting, and hospitality revenue and inventory processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant accounting or audit software.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- High integrity, confidentiality, professional judgement, and attention to detail.
