About the role
GitLab is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to join the Core DevOps team. In this position, you will provide technical leadership across multiple teams and solve complex frontend challenges. You will help shape the product experience and frontend architecture for a global, AI-powered DevSecOps platform. The role emphasizes using AI as a core productivity multiplier in daily workflows.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and delivery of large, complex frontend initiatives.
- Drive the strategy for the frontend platform, design system, and shared architecture.
- Define and improve standards for testing, accessibility, security, and performance.
- Guide the modernization of legacy frontend architectures toward modular systems.
- Mentor senior and intermediate engineers and establish guardrails for AI-assisted workflows.
Requirements
- A sustained record of technical leadership across teams or a broad product area.
- Deep experience in frontend architecture and production web applications.
- Experience scaling or governing a design system or shared component architecture.
- Experience with modular frontend architecture in production environments.
- Ability to create alignment through clear written proposals and decision records.
- Experience mentoring engineers and shaping standards through code review.
