About the role
Twilio is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer (L3) to join the Customer Memory Team. In this position, you will develop the core AI and ML capabilities that enable intelligent engagement experiences for Twilio customers. Your work will help applications, human agents, and AI channels understand customer identity, history, and optimal contact methods. This role is ideal for a builder with a curious mindset who can bridge theoretical research with production-grade software.
Responsibilities
- Develop new features for a fast-moving product with rapid adoption.
- Design and execute rigorous experiments to turn ambiguous ideas into solutions within weeks.
- Conduct research into state-of-the-art LLM orchestration, retrieval strategies, and data-driven personalization.
- Build ML systems capable of handling Twilio’s scale.
- Integrate the latest AI development stacks to focus on core differentiation.
Requirements
- Required: 5+ years of applied ML/AI experience with a track record of owning technically ambitious systems end-to-end.
- Required: Proficiency in Python.
- Required: Experience building cloud-based services on AWS, GCP, or Azure, including high-volume data and real-time inference paths.
- Required: Deep expertise in production-grade ML/AI systems, including LLM orchestration, embedding models, and vector stores.
- Required: Strong fundamentals in statistical machine learning, transformer models, and LLMs.
- Required: Ability to mentor and raise the technical bar of a team without formal management authority.
- Desired: Experience building autonomous agents for multi-turn conversations.
- Desired: Background in predictive modeling on user behavior and causal inference methods.
- Desired: Experience working in a globally distributed team.
