About the role
Dangote Industries Limited is seeking a dedicated HSE Officer to join its team in Kogi. This full-time position focuses on developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies to safeguard factory personnel. You will play a key role in minimizing workplace hazards associated with heavy industrial machinery, such as extruders and circular looms, while ensuring the proper handling of raw polypropylene polymers. The goal is to maintain a zero-harm operational culture within the manufacturing plant.
Responsibilities
- Policy Implementation: Ensure full compliance with statutory occupational health and safety laws, environmental standards, and labor codes. Enforce company HSE policies and conduct regular statutory inspections of infrastructure and safety gear.
- Hazard Management: Monitor high-risk areas and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols. Perform daily safety walkthroughs and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) across production sections like Extrusion, Weaving, and Lamination.
- Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into accidents and near misses to determine root causes. Maintain accurate documentation and compile detailed monthly HSE reports for management.
- Training & Culture: Promote safety awareness and proper PPE usage. Facilitate toolbox talks, induction training, and specialized sessions on forklift safety and chemical handling. Coordinate fire drills and emergency evacuation training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or local HSE certifications are strongly preferred.
- 2 to 4 years of hands-on HSE experience in heavy manufacturing, plastics processing, or industrial production.
- Strong skills in machine safeguarding, fire safety systems, waste management, and emergency response planning.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to handle emergency situations calmly.
