About the role
Zipline uses drones to deliver life-saving medicine to hospitals across multiple countries. As the Head of Logistics for Africa, you will oversee the inbound supply chain for all operating and build sites in the region. You will ensure that parts, batteries, hardware, and materials arrive on time and at agreed prices. This role reports to the Head of Operations, Africa, and involves close collaboration with the Heads of Deployments and Service Delivery.
Responsibilities
- Manage the inbound supply chain for operating and build sites, including freight, ports, customs, and spares warehouses.
- Establish customs dossiers and pre-agreed HS classification catalogues for each country.
- Set service-level agreements with site operations and the Deployments team at published transfer prices.
- Reduce emergency air freight usage by implementing buffer stock strategies.
- Act as the primary contact for Zipline’s global supply chain and production team in South San Francisco.
- Lead and develop in-country logistics analysts in Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.
- Ensure accurate customs valuation, clean import documentation, and rigorous reconciliation of vendor billing.
Requirements
- 10–15 years of experience running cross-border supply chains in Africa.
- Background in freight forwarding, FMCG, pharmaceutical or health logistics, telecoms, or humanitarian logistics.
- Deep experience with customs and corridor management in West and East Africa.
- Experience pricing and publishing internal SLAs and managing emergency freight.
- Strong controls mindset and discipline with vendors and freight forwarders.
- Strong programme and project management skills, including driving workstreams across teams you do not directly lead.
