About the role
talabat, part of Delivery Hero, is seeking a Senior Manager of Data Science to lead the Global QC Hub team in Dubai. You will manage a talented machine learning team focused on improving price optimization and operational efficiency. This role involves owning the entire ML workflow, from identifying business opportunities to deploying models in production. You will also lead the company’s experimentation and causal inference practices to rigorously measure business impact.
Responsibilities
- Set the team’s roadmap, priorities, and success criteria in collaboration with engineering and business partners.
- Own the end-to-end ML workflow, including problem formulation, dataset development, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Lead experimentation and causal inference, designing A/B, multivariate, switchback, and geo experiments.
- Apply causal methods such as incrementality measurement, uplift modelling, and matching to assess true business impact.
- Oversee data analytics, engineering, modeling, and reporting functions.
- Design and develop the ML platform, including feature management, continuous training, and serving for online and batch inference.
- Coach and mentor ML engineers, data scientists, and data engineers.
- Drive recruitment and interviewing for outstanding data talent.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, technology, or a similar field. A postgraduate degree is a plus.
- 10+ years of overall experience in software engineering and data across multiple disciplines.
- 8+ years of experience in machine learning at a high-growth consumer product company or similar environment.
- 3+ years of engineering management experience in ML engineering or a related area.
- Expertise in classical machine learning and deep learning frameworks.
- Strong experience deploying and managing production ML systems at scale.
- Background in experiment design, statistical analysis, and causal thinking, including hands-on experience with uplift modelling and incrementality measurement.
- Experience with advanced methods like switchback testing, geo testing, and marketing mix modelling is highly valued.
