About the role
Extension Africa is a data-driven agritech platform that provides private extension services to value chain actors. We are looking for a Grant Associate to own our funding portfolio end-to-end. This strategic role sits within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer and works through the Development Unit. You will be responsible for building a new pipeline with large institutional funders, such as the World Bank, African Development Bank, IFAD, EU, and FCDO, while also deepening existing donor relationships.
The position is based in Abuja and is a 12-month contract, renewable subject to performance and funding. As an equal opportunity employer, Extension Africa strongly encourages women to apply.
Responsibilities
- Build a new funding pipeline with large institutional funders.
- Deepen existing donor relationships to maximize near-term returns.
- Manage the funding portfolio end-to-end, including deciding which opportunities to pursue or decline.
- Coordinate across technical teams without direct line authority.
- Prepare submissions and defend donor budgets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in International Development, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–5 years in grant acquisition, resource mobilisation, or business development with demonstrable wins.
- Direct experience preparing submissions to at least one major institutional funder (multilateral development bank, bilateral agency, or large private foundation).
- Proven written proposal record; candidates will be assessed on a writing sample and asked to cite specific awards secured.
- Working knowledge of donor compliance frameworks and the ability to build and defend a donor budget.
- Strong coordination skills across technical teams.
- Experience with consortium bids, prime–subcontractor arrangements, or multi-country programmes is an advantage.
- Working proficiency in French relevant to West and Central African expansion is an advantage.
