About the role
Our client, a leading civil construction group in Nigeria, is recruiting a General Manager to lead the Marine Works Division. This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving the division’s growth and ensuring the successful delivery of major marine infrastructure projects, particularly the Lagos Port rehabilitation project. You will play a key role in positioning the company as a top contractor for port, maritime, and coastal infrastructure in West Africa.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Marine Works Division as a high-performing business unit.
- Oversee the delivery of large-scale marine projects, including port rehabilitation, quay walls, jetties, dredging, and coastal protection.
- Define and implement the division’s strategy, operating model, and performance standards.
- Review technical designs, schedules, budgets, and risk plans to ensure projects are delivered safely and on time.
- Manage budgets, cost control, and project profitability while supporting tendering and business development.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, port authorities, government agencies, and local communities.
- Mentor local talent and build technical and managerial capability within the team.
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE standards, environmental requirements, and international quality benchmarks.
Requirements
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Coastal Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 20 years’ experience in civil engineering, marine construction, or major infrastructure projects.
- Strong track record in delivering large-scale marine infrastructure projects, ideally including port rehabilitation or coastal works.
- Proven experience in senior leadership roles such as General Manager, Operations Director, or Business Unit Head.
- Proficiency in project management tools like Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to lead multicultural teams.
- Experience managing complex projects in challenging environments, preferably in Africa or emerging markets.
- Professional engineering certification or PMP qualification is an advantage.
