About the role
Heirs Technologies Limited empowers Africa’s digital transformation through innovative, locally tailored solutions. We are seeking a practitioner-architect who can design cloud, data, network, and security architectures hands-on, while also providing the breadth and judgment to hold the entire technical vision together. In this hybrid role based in Lagos, you will serve as the most senior technical architect on the platform, engaging directly with senior leadership to navigate complex stakeholder environments and ensure the architecture serves the business.
Responsibilities
- Domain Architecture: Design and own individual domain architectures, including cloud infrastructure, data, network, security, and on-premises integration, either directly or by guiding specialist teams.
- Integration Architecture: Define integration patterns and security controls for interoperability between the cloud-native platform and legacy core banking systems.
- Executive Engagement: Engage with the Platform Director, GCTIO, and senior leadership to translate architectural decisions into clear business terms and build trust across organizational boundaries.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the architecture meets PCI DSS, CBN guidelines, and data protection regulations, designing compliance in from the ground up.
- Technology Strategy: Own the technology strategy and catalogue, making principled build-vs-buy decisions and governing external partner integrations.
- Platform Standards: Define engineering standards for microservices, APIs, and security controls, ensuring they are enforced consistently across the platform.
- Resilience & Governance: Validate non-functional requirements such as 99.99% availability and lead the architecture governance process, including chairing the Architecture Review Board.
Requirements
- 10+ years of technology experience, including substantial time in architecture roles with hands-on expertise across multiple domains.
- Strong understanding of microservices, event-driven systems, and API-first design for cloud-native financial platforms.
- Executive presence and the ability to engage credibly with board members and senior executives.
- Experience with on-premises infrastructure architecture and enterprise integration with legacy systems.
- Genuine depth in cloud infrastructure (AWS and/or Azure), distributed data systems, and network architecture.
- Proven experience translating business requirements and regulatory mandates into well-documented technical architectures.
- Experience governing architecture in multi-team environments, including ADRs and standards enforcement.
